The Hydrological Extremes, Coasts and Risk Management theme incorporates a consideration of several key areas including flooding, water scarcity, coastal erosion, risk scenarios and nature-based solutions.
Projects within this theme will inform regulation and policy in areas including water and climate, natural flood management and coastal erosion management.
Knowledge generated will improve the understanding and communication between science and policy within this area, deliver win-win solutions with positive impact and longer-term outcomes for both the water environment and society.
This theme will initially be explored in a capacity and knowledge building project to inform natural flood management and mitigation of coastal erosion with the restoration and incorporation of shellfish, kelp and seagrass beds. The research has relevance to multiple policy areas including flooding, biodiversity, climate change marine planning and the blue economy.
