Innovations in aquatic monitoring

SEPA have requested a review highlighting examples of monitoring where personal monitors have the potential to be, or currently are, being used for aquatic monitoring. The review should take into account technologies which can be used by field/technical staff and members of the public as part of citizen science initiatives.

The technologies reviewed (e.g. phone apps and sensor devices) should have the capability to act as more than purely a conduit for information, rather some observation and/or analysis within the unit itself is required. Examples of this include sensors with accompanying smart phone apps to determine soil pH, radiation levels within buildings, temperature etc.

The review should give details of the technology itself and document the barriers and opportunites of the technology. Details of developer/supplier and cost should also be provided where this information is available.
